Once again, the NBA All-Star Game was a major disappointment, as it had an utter lack of defense and overall competitive intensity.

The Eastern Conference won and managed to score 211 points, and even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sounded less than enthused when congratulating the East for winning and scoring so many points.

Many are wondering what should be done to restore the competitiveness of the All-Star Game that was enjoyed decades ago, and on “What’s Wright? with Nick Wright,” Wright offered a controversial solution — give the winning conference home-court advantage in the NBA Finals.

“If you want to actually fix the NBA All-Star Game, the winning conference gets home-court advantage in the Finals.”

Major League Baseball actually tried this incentive back in the day, but it eventually abandoned it and went back to giving home-field advantage in the World Series to the team that had the better regular-season record.

Critics would say that this strategy won’t work because the majority of All-Stars play for teams that have no real shot at reaching the championship series.

In addition, it could somewhat diminish the importance of the regular season, and as it is, there is a perception among fans that the regular season doesn’t matter that much.

Another incentive that has been suggested is giving each player on the winning team in the All-Star Game a big cash payout.

After all, it worked well for the inaugural in-season tournament a couple of months ago, which featured near-playoff intensity, not to mention very strong television ratings.

But in the end, players will have to intrinsically take All-Star Weekend more seriously and create some excitement there themselves, rather than see it as an opportunity to kick back and preserve their bodies for the stretch run of the regular season.
