When people talk about the elite teams in the AFC right now, two teams invariably come up: the Miami Dolphins and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Some would also add the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens to that list, and a few may feel the Cincinnati Bengals are clawing their way back to that territory.
On Thursday, the young and hungry Jacksonville Jaguars scored a 31-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints, and it led Nick Wright to say that they’re undeniably one of the NFL’s elite teams on “First Things First.”
“I tried to warn you guys — 11 days, 2 continents, 3 time zones, 3 wins. TheJacksonville Jaguars are amongst the elite in the AFC. It’s undeniable.”

Third-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to develop, and he led a clutch drive in the waning minutes to put his team ahead for good with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Christian Kirk.
It wasn’t the most dazzling of performances for Lawrence, but he did complete 20 of 29 passes while adding 59 yards on eight rushing attempts.
The Jaguars are now 5-2 on the season, and as Wright pointed out, since last November they’re one of just six NFL teams to win 13 games.
Meanwhile, the Saints, whom some picked to finish first in the NFC South, fell to 3-4 after Thursday’s game and are now firmly behind the surprising Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are currently in first place in the division.
Jacksonville still has some things to clean up if they want to make a serious run at the Super Bowl — they rank toward the bottom of the league in passing yards and touchdowns given up, but they’re on a four-game winning streak and have scored over 30 points in back-to-back games.
