The San Francisco 49ers are firmly in the middle of a Super Bowl contention window that keeps getting extended, but the clock is ticking after losing yet another Super Bowl last season to the Kansas City Chiefs and fans are getting a bit restless.
Expectations are sky-high once again this year, but Nick Wright doesn’t believe the Niners are equipped to live up to those expectations.
On a recent episode of First Things First, Wright predicted that the Niners would win ten games and finish in second place in the NFC West, saying “There’s a long history of the Super Bowl hangover coming crashing on you and those are teams who had better offseasons” while also adding that they have “way too many red flags.”

He isn’t wrong about the red flags and mentioned the contract situations of Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk, who are two of the team’s most important pillars and aren’t suiting up at the moment.
He also pointed out the injuries that Christian McCaffrey and Ricky Pearsall have already been going through while also mentioning how shaky Brock Purdy has looked in camp.
The Niners only went 12-5 last season, so a two-win decline is not a crazy take when you really think about it.
Wright has the Rams winning the division as long as Cooper Kupp stays healthy and loves the rookie picks of Jared Verse on defense and Blake Corum to the running back room.
It’s certainly an unpopular take, but it’s not outrageous by any means.
