The curse of high expectations is raining down on the New York Jets and head coach Robert Saleh.
Aaron Rodgers appears to be fully recovered from his Achilles injury suffered in last season’s opener, and the lineup is filled with talented performers.
However, with the expectations comes pressure to perform, and if the Jets stumble out of the gate, a promising year could turn into a disaster and cost Saleh his job.
FS1’s Nick Wright believes that Saleh is firmly planted on the hot seat, especially with reports that Rodgers may be concerned that his absence from mandatory minicamp was labeled “unexcused” by the coach.
“I’m officially putting Robert Saleh on the hot seat. … If the New York Jets start 0-3 you can’t see ‘interim head coach, triumphant return’ vs. Denver for Nat Hackett?”

The 44-year-old Saleh has a less-than-stellar 18-33 mark at the helm of the Jets, and it is virtually unquestioned that he will depart if the team does not dramatically improve in 2024.
Wright went so far as to ask why Saleh has his job in the first place.
The current answer would be that he received a pass for last season after Rodgers was lost, but even if the quarterback were to go down again, that would likely not save the head man’s position if the team falters.
The analyst added that he is placing Saleh on the hot seat for 2024.
Wright noted that the early schedule features road dates in San Francisco and Tennessee, as well as home games against New England and Denver.
Anything less than a 2-2 start would be an abysmal failure in the Big Apple, and there would likely be no saving Saleh’s job.
