Nick Wright Says One NBA Team’s Offseason Has Been A Failure

After getting knocked out of the NBA playoffs by Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets for a second straight season, the Los Angeles Lakers headed into the NBA offseason determined to improve their roster and revamp the coaching staff, starting with the firing of head coach Darvin Ham after two seasons.

Following a long and drawn-out process that was highly criticized, the Lakers chose to make former player JJ Redick their new head coach despite having no coaching experience to speak of.

As if that wasn’t a controversial and questionable move, Los Angeles then drafted LeBron James’ son Bronny James with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Along with those two moves, which have baffled a lot of fans and members of the media, the Lakers have been unable to make any significant moves in NBA free agency or with trades to improve the roster.

`This has led many to believe this offseason has been an epic failure for the storied franchise, as Nick Wright of FOX Sports talks about on First Things First.

“Yes, of course,” Wright said. … “By any definition, it’s been a failure.”

With the Lakers basically running it back with the same roster next season, it is hard to see this team making any noise in a highly competitive conference, which obviously doesn’t bode well for a good outcome during the 2023-24 campaign.

Only time will tell how things pan out for the Lakers, but as of right now, it doesn’t look good for the 17-time NBA champions.
