The Philadelphia Eagles made a big splash early in the offseason by snatching Saquon Barkley away from the New York Giants.

Getting a divisional rival’s best player was a slick move by Howie Roseman, but it came at a steep price.

Notably, the Giants weren’t even close to paying Barkley as much money as he got in the City of Brotherly Love, and he’ll now have to pay that back with his production on the field.

Not many people have doubts about his ability to do so, although injuries will always be a concern with him.

However, as good as he’s been when healthy, Nick Wright still doesn’t think he’s going to be a difference-maker in Philadelphia.

Talking on First Things First, he pointed out that Barkley’s production hasn’t usually translated to team success.

.@getnickwright does not think Saquon Barkley is going to be a difference maker for the Eagles.

“As a rookie, he looked like a phenom. Since then he’s had one pretty good year, a handful of injuries, and a bunch of, ‘okay yeah.'” pic.twitter.com/BGRhGxnXv4

Injuries aside, even when he’s been very good, the Giants were only able to put up more points per game because they had some sort of competent quarterback play, says Wright.

Thus, he just doesn’t see Barkley being a 13-million-a-year kind of guy, not even if he looked like a phenom coming out of college.

That’s a bit of a hot take.

Barkley will finally get to play alongside other playmakers, and that should open up plenty of lanes for him.

He’ll finally have a competent offensive line in front of him, and while there will always be injury concerns, chances are that at least 20 teams in the league would love to have him coming out of the backfield.
