There was a lot of hype surrounding the Phoenix Suns coming into this season, and many felt they had a great chance of reaching the NBA Finals, if not winning the world championship.
Instead, they won a modest 49 games and got swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
A lot of that hype was created by the trade midway through last season that brought them Kevin Durant, and since they got knocked out of the postseason, there have been whispers that perhaps he could be on the move again.
Nick Wright said on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that Durant should ask out in order to improve his reputation and legacy.
“I wish Kevin Durant would ask out. … He seems unable to find basketball peace. It doesn’t change his rep at all. The only thing that changes his rep is if we see him on another significant postseason run.”

Wright called Durant a “wanderer” because he has switched teams frequently in recent years, and he added that asking out and getting traded again won’t change that reputation.
The only thing that would change Durant’s reputation, according to Wright, is postseason success, and he pointed out that Durant hasn’t played a full game past the second round of the playoffs since 2018.
The future Hall of Fame forward spent his first nine years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, only to join a Golden State Warriors team that was coming off a record 73 regular season wins.
Although the Warriors won the next two NBA titles and even though Durant won the NBA Finals MVP both times, many still don’t give him any real credit for those rings.
He left the Warriors in 2019, and after a couple of fruitless seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, he was shipped to Phoenix.
As presently constituted, the Suns’ roster is vastly flawed, which means they and Durant are stuck in the middle as merely a playoff team, which is not a good place to be stuck in.
