The New England Patriots are stuck in one of the worst possible positions any professional team could be in.
They’re not good enough to actually compete for a Super Bowl — and they might not even make the playoffs — but they’re not bad enough to get a top pick in the NFL Draft and turn their franchise around, either.
You never want to be stuck in the middle; you need to either be really good or really bad.
That’s why Nick Wright believes there’s no AFC team furthest from a Super Bowl than Bill Belichick’s, not even the Houston Texans, as they might have drafted a future star quarterback in C.J. Stroud.

While Wright didn’t say that they’re the worst team in the AFC or even predicted them to finish dead-last in their division, he still believes they would be the last pick if experts had to rank the likeliest AFC teams to win a Super Bowl in the next five years.
Regardless of their defense and having arguably the greatest head coach in the history of the game, it doesn’t seem like the Patriots have what it takes to turn the corner and go back to their winning ways right away.
Team owner Robert Kraft has made it more than clear that he has no intention whatsoever of being bad for a long time, saying that their goal for the season is winning Super Bowl number 7.
But judging by the status of the roster and comparing them to the rest of the AFC, that doesn’t seem likely at all.
