Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies finally knows his fate.

The talented point guard will be suspended for 25 games of the upcoming season, thus becoming ineligible for any of the end-of-season awards.

He’s also expected to meet some conditions before being eligible to return, although those conditions haven’t been publicly disclosed yet.

There was also a lot of concern regarding his partnership with Nike, as some of his signature sneakers and apparel had been scrubbed from the website.

However, ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne (via NBACentral) reports that the sports apparel giant isn’t planning to drop him any time soon, and they celebrate his determination to get better and will continue to support him as he works on improving his mental health.

Nike will not cut ties with Ja Morant

“We are pleased that Ja is taking accountability and prioritizing his well-being. We will continue to support him on and off the court.”

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, truth be told.

Morant broke the league’s policy twice in less than a season, so it was only natural to see him suspended.

If anything, most people anticipated a much bigger suspension, and it feels like this was just a slap on the wrist, regardless of the financial cost that missing those end-of-season awards could have on his contract.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that Morant finds healthier ways to cope with his mental health issues, as we never want to see the best players waste their careers or miss games because of off-court stuff.
