Nikola Jokic is undeniably the heart and soul of the Denver Nuggets.
But his demeanor and attitude sometimes make it seem like basketball is just his job, not his passion.
Jokic has often talked about how he’s desperate to reach the end of the season so he can get back to Serbia to be around his horses and his friends, and you can tell he means it.
That was on full display again shortly before his season debut.
Kenny Smith asked him on NBA on TNT about his offseason, wondering how much hooping he did since winning the NBA Finals.
Jokic was as honest as ever and admitted that, even though he didn’t skip a single day in the weight room, he actually didn’t play basketball at all in the offseason (via ClutchPoints).
Kenny Smith: “What was your offseason like this year? How much basketball did you play?”
Nikola Jokic: “I didnt skip any days in the weight room, maybe a little bit on the court. A couple days, or a month, or two months.”

Jokic was coming off the longest season of his career, and he just needed a break; it happens.
Someone as talented and with such a natural gift for the game can afford not to dribble a basketball for a couple of months and then come back as good — or even better than — they were before.
Also, it’s not like Jokic showed any signs of rust in his first game back.
He picked things up right where he left them last season, putting up a monster triple-double, dominating Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor, and leading his team to their first win of the season.
