The Denver Nuggets’ championship was years in the making.

Mike Malone’s team went through it all for almost a decade before finally being able to reach the ultimate stage.

They had to endure injuries, tough breaks, and even sweeps, all while people considered them just a good regular-season team and not an actual NBA title contender.

That’s why Nikola Jokic shared some words of wisdom and inspiration to motivate those who still haven’t hit their stride in their respective area of expertise, letting it be known that you need to be bad before you’re good.

“If you want to be successful, you need to be bad, then you need to be good,” Jokic said, per ESPN. “Then when you’re good, you need to fail. Then when you fail, you’re going to figure it out. There are no shortcuts. It’s a journey.”

Notably, winning an NBA championship is one of the toughest things any professional team could strive for.

To put it in context, we’ve had five different NBA champions in the past five seasons (Toronto Raptors, 2019; Los Angeles Lakers, 2020; Milwaukee Bucks, 2021; Golden State Warriors, 2022; and Denver Nuggets, 2023).

Also, just two teams have managed to make it to more than one NBA Final (Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat) over that span.

The NBA is where amazing happens, and there’s more and more talent flooding the league by the year.

Teams don’t usually wait for that long before giving up on their projects and breaking their rosters up.

But the Nuggets stood by Malone, and they also held on to Jamal Murray despite all the injuries, and now it has finally paid off.

You need to crawl before walking, and you need to walk before running; that’s just the way it is.

There are no shortcuts to success.
