Nolan Gorman gave the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans multiple reasons to be optimistic over the first weekend of the season.

He capped it off with a strong performance on Sunday which included two home runs off of Toronto Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt, as he led the Cardinals to a 9-4 win and a series victory to start off the season.

In fact, Gorman is off to a pretty hot start this year.

The young slugger drove in six runs on Sunday and has hit safely in eight of his first 13 plate appearances, which amounts to a .615 on-base percentage.

Sunday was also his second career multi-homer game.

Cardinals fans have to like what they saw out of Gorman this past weekend.

St. Louis’ offense is red-hot and appears to be the ultimate strength of the team.

Gorman propelled the offense to another nine-run outburst on Sunday.

The 22-year-old made his MLB debut last season and hit 16 home runs.

However, his average was less than stellar and he ultimately lost playing time towards the end of the season.

But this season, he has started off hot and has seemingly secured the designated hitter spot, at least against right-handed pitchers.

And with Gorman’s emergence, the Cardinals may have some tough decisions to make in terms of how to distribute playing time amongst their infielders.

St. Louis also has Tommy Edman and Brendan Donovan in their infield mix.

Soon, Gorman may force the team’s hand, as Jordan Walker has in recent weeks.
