The Denver Nuggets were dealt a brutal blow.

The reigning NBA champions are going to be without their second-best player for a while.

According to head coach Michael Malone, Jamal Murray’s injury won’t be just a one-or-two-game thing, and he’s expected to miss extended time (via Tony Jones).

As he said pregame, Michael Malone says again that the Jamal Murray injury isn’t a short term thing

Murray suffered a right hamstring strain during Saturday’s win over the Chicago Bulls.

However, he had been dealing with hamstring tightness since the offseason, even missing the FIBA Basketball World Cup last summer to heal and restore his body.

Coach Malone didn’t want to commit to a timeline or make any promises about his star’s availability or potential return.

The Canadian star had balled out to start the season, averaging 16.3 points, 7.4  assists, and 2.6 boards per game in seven games.

In the meantime, Reggie Jackson is expected to continue playing with the starting lineup, while Michael Porter Jr. will obviously be required to pick up some of the slack and take more shots, which shouldn’t be much of a problem or a concern for him.

The Nuggets have had to learn how to play and thrive without Murray on the floor, as he’s already missed one and a half seasons with different injuries throughout the course of his young career.

The reigning champions have only lost one game this season, and they’ll continue to be a force to be reckoned with, even without Murray, so they need to make sure to be extra cautious with him going forward, especially considering his history of injuries.
