The Denver Nuggets were the first seed in the Western Conference during the 2022-23 NBA season.

Being the No. 1 seed in the West, they were expected to win it all.

The Nuggets fulfilled those expectations by dominating throughout their postseason run, led by none other than Nikola Jokic.

Jokic averaged 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game over 20 games in the playoffs.

One would hope that Jokic and other Nuggets players have gotten their turn to keep the illustrious Larry O’Brien trophy with themselves at one point or another.

However, according to Nuggets media relations director Nick O’Hayre via ClutchPoints on Twitter, the trophy has been locked away since the championship parade in June.

“Our owners have had it under lock and key since we won, and no players or staff are allowed to take it anywhere,” O’Hayre said.

Jamal Murray and his teammates, along with staff members of the Denver Nuggets were not allowed to bring the Larry O’Brien trophy to their hometowns this summer as the team had it “under lock and key” since the championship parade back in June

Now, that’s an interesting approach to keeping the Larry O’Brien trophy.

After all, winning an NBA title is a dream come true for most players in the league and they would hope to keep it with them, albeit for a short period of time.

Unfortunately, the Nuggets want to start to new tradition after winning their first NBA title in franchise history.

Speaking of the Nuggets, many are already doubting they will defend their championship trophy next season.

It’s too early to make any predictions as the 2023-24 NBA season is yet to begin.

In fact, the Nuggets players will receive their championship rings later this year.

Either way, Mike Malone and his players are already viewed as the underdogs to defend their championship title.

Will the fans be correct or will the Jokic-led Nuggets surprise the world by winning back-to-back titles?
