After narrowly losing in the Super Bowl in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs two months ago, the San Francisco 49ers seem poised to run it back for the 2024 season.

But their status as championship contenders is in some jeopardy, as star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has reportedly asked to be traded, although his agent has denied it.

If the 49ers do indeed trade him, many teams will likely inquire about his services, and per Jaime Eisner, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the current favorites to land Aiyuk.

Which team will Brandon Aiyuk play for next season (if not SF):

Steelers (+200)
Patriots (+600)
Panthers (+600)
Cardinals (+700)
Chargers (+900)
Giants (12/1)
Chiefs (12/1)
Bills (12/1)
Jaguars (14/1)
Buccaneers (16/1)
Bengals (18/1)

If the Steelers were to end up with him, they could bring a very interesting team to training camp, not to mention some extra intrigue to the race for the AFC title.

They have brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, as well as emerging linebacker Patrick Queen, this offseason, and one more legitimate wide receiver could make them a borderline contender.

Aiyuk has been steadily increasing his production ever since he was a first-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2020, and in 2023, he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

He will be entering the final year of his contract, and contract extension negotiations haven’t been fruitful, which is why there is speculation that he wants to leave.

He recently unfollowed the 49ers on social media, but the 49ers have been through this before.

Two offseasons ago, wideout Deebo Samuel unfollowed them as he was angling for an extension, and even though some thought he was gone, he agreed to a three-year, $73.5 million extension.
