Once the 2023-24 NBA season is officially over for the Los Angeles Lakers, the main topic of discussion around the league will be what the future holds for superstar forward LeBron James, who will have the opportunity to opt out of the final year of his contract with the 17-time NBA champions.
James will have a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season with the Lakers, but his son, Bronny James of the University of Southern California, will be eligible to make the jump to the NBA level, and his father has been adamant about playing alongside him on the professional level before he calls it a career.
The four-time NBA champion will have all the leverage in this situation as he can control his fate, and signing with the team that drafts his son might be what he intends to do.
With the second half of the 2023-24 campaign about to get underway, the draft order for the 2024 NBA Draft is starting to take shape, with the San Antonio Spurs looking like a team that could be drafting No. 1 overall for a second straight year.
According to BetOnline.ag, the Spurs are currently the favorites to be James’ next team, via Legion Hoops.

Although Bronny James is a talented player and will likely get his shot to shine in the NBA, he’s not a player in consideration for the No. 1 overall pick, as he could end up being a second-round draft pick or not drafted at all, and free to sign a deal with any team he deems fit.
Currently, the Spurs intend to build around international superstar Victor Wembanyama, as they have high hopes for him being one of the best players in the league someday.
Adding LeBron James into the mix would be a step in the right direction, but who knows if the team wants to go in that direction.
