You may or may not think of LeBron James as the greatest player in NBA history, and both stances could be valid.

What no one can do is disrespect his career or believe he wasn’t able to live up to the expectations.

That became evident once again in an interview shared by Timeless Sports (via Hoop Central) of James when he wasn’t in the league.

Still playing for St. Vincent-St. Mary’s high school, James made a clear distinction between his dreams and his goals, stating that he dreamed of seeing his mother happy every day, but his goal was to get to the NBA.

Throwback to LeBron James in 2002:

“I look at my goal and my dream as two different things. My dream is to see my mother happy every day, but my goal…is to get to the NBA.”

Wise words from LeBron.

It’s safe to say that he’s succeeded in both of those, as Gloria James must be living her best life after everything her son has accomplished on the basketball court.

LeBron was deemed ‘The Chosen One’ while still in high school.

He played in sold-out arenas and had nationally-televised games long before he made it to the NBA.

Despite all that and all the things that come with making the jump to the league straight from high school, James has never been tangled up in any sort of scandal or off-court situation.

He’s set the blueprint for successful athletes not only on the court but also in the business and even personal landscapes.

And while some may never give him the nod as the best player of all time, which is perfectly fine, no one can say that he was unable to keep up with the unrealistic expectations they put on his shoulders.
