Everyone loves a Game 7, but you can’t get that far if you drop the ball in Games 1 and 2, and while in the NHL or MLB, a team might have a decent shot to come back from a 2-0 deficit, it is exceedingly rare in the NBA.

The Dallas Mavericks currently find themselves in this position and the stats are not in their favor as they hope to get on the board in Game 3 to make things interesting.

Evan Sidery of Forbes shared that only five teams have ever pulled off a 2-0 comeback in the NBA Finals, including the 1969 Boston Celtics, 1977 Portland Trail Blazers, 2006 Miami Heat, 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, and 2021 Milwaukee Bucks.

Perhaps the Mavericks can take some solace in the fact that it has happened three times since 2006, as maybe home-court advantage isn’t quite as beneficial as it used to be.

The Celtics have been prone to letdowns at home in recent postseasons, which is good for Dallas since in order to pull off this comeback, the Mavs will have to win in Boston at least once.

The Mavericks are 5-3 at home this postseason and the Celtics are 6-0 on the road, which isn’t a great recipe to win the next two games and even this series up.

In order to get on the board, Dallas has to find a way to shoot the three better, as the Celtics have found ways to stifle the Mavs’ offense by holding them to an NBA-low 9 assists in Game 1, while holding everyone except Luka Doncic to 2-17 shooting from three-point range in Game 2.
