With just hours to go before the new NBA season, teams are making their final roster choices and extensions.

The Indiana Pacers are just one of many squads looking to solidify their plans for the months ahead.

Because of that, they have given forward Aaron Newsmith a three-year, $33 million contract extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Nesmith’s agent, Mike Lindeman of Excel Sports Management, reported the news to Wojnarowski.

Nesmith was the 14th player taken in the 2020 NBA draft and has averaged 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds since joining the league.

For his first two seasons, he played for the Boston Celtics but then moved to the Pacers in 2022-23.

His first year with the Pacers was his best yet: Nesmith produced 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds a game.

Because of this output, Nesmith carved out a special spot on the team’s roster and started in 60 of his 73 games last season.

The Pacers are currently trying to rebuild their roster and return to playoff prominence.

They will again be led by Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, Buddy Hield, and head coach Rick Carlisle.

They have some new recruits too, such as Obi Toppin and newly-crowned champion Bruce Brown.

The team finished as the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference last season but there is hope they could do much better than that in 2023-24.

Nesmith is apparently part of their plans for the future.

Monday is the last day that NBA teams can agree to rookie extensions for the 2020 draft class.

That means that Nesmith’s deal won’t be the only one that fans hear about during the day.
