The Green Bay Packers are making a major change within their coaching staff.
Joe Barry won’t return as defensive coordinator next season (via Tom Pelissero).
Barry was walking on thin ice after allowing Baker Mayfield to have a perfect passer rating at Lambeau Field and then almost losing to the Carolina Panthers in back-to-back weeks.

The Packers’ defense stepped up big time in the Wild Card round vs. the Dallas Cowboys, although a lot of that also had to do with Dak Prescott’s well-documented postseason struggles.
HC Matt LaFleur claimed that he wouldn’t make any rash decisions regarding his coaching staff, but it was more than clear that the defense had underperformed vastly under Barry.
The Packers’ usually-dominant defense was inconsistent this season, and they struggled mightily against the run.
This Packers team has proven that it can compete with the best teams in the league on any given night.
Their youth and lack of experience didn’t prevent them from being just four points away from the NFC Championship Game.
Hopefully, their next defensive coordinator will be able to take them to the next level, as they’re just too talented and could become contenders sooner rather than later.
