It is not stunning to see an NFL team make some 53-man roster or practice squad tweaks here or there when the regular season is about a week away.
After all, each team is trying to put themselves in the best position to win games.
The Carolina Panthers are one of the recent teams to make a couple of moves on their practice squad.
Today, they announced the signings of wide receiver Deon Cain and offensive lineman Brandon Walton.

Cain is the most notable name of the two.
A former sixth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, Cain was a key piece of Clemson’s national championship team in 2017.
He has bounced around on five different NFL teams and has also played in multiple professional leagues (NFL, UFL, USFL).
In his NFL career, he has just nine total catches for 124 yards.
Perhaps he can find his way into carving out a nice role for himself if he can stay with the team long enough.
For Walton, the former undrafted lineman out of Florida Atlantic has played in 15 games and started twice over his first few seasons in the league.
The Panthers will be the third team that he has joined when it comes to being on the practice squad.
For a young, rebuilding team, the Panthers are looking for players from every corner of the league to step in and make some kind of impact.
Even if it is just the practice squad, players such as Cain and Walton can provide a little bit of depth moving forward for first-year head coach Dave Canales.
