The Carolina Panthers are a team that may need all the help that they can get this season.

The franchise has had six consecutive losing seasons and is coming off of a 2-15 season.

Defensively, it appears as though GM Dan Morgan and head coach Dave Canales may be looking to bring some more help to that side of the ball.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Carolina is planning on hosting veteran cornerback Jerry Jacobs on a visit.

“Should be later this week,” Fowler recently posted to social media.

The #Panthers plan to host free agent corner Jerry Jacobs on a visit, per league source. Should be later this week.

Jacobs started 12 games with three interceptions and eight pass deflections for Detroit last season.

Jacobs, who went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2021, latched on with the Detroit Lions for three years before becoming a free agent this offseason.

He started 29 games out of the total 40 that he played in for Detroit between 2021 and 2023.

Last season, he recorded three interceptions and eight pass deflections while putting up a career-high 55 total tackles.

An ascending player, Carolina could certainly use him on their backend.

Even though this Panthers defense finished third in the league in pass defense (171.5 YPG allowed), adding a veteran with starting experience could be a key move, especially on a one-year deal where the player may need to prove himself again.

On the depth chart, current veterans Dane Jackson and Troy Hill are the top two cornerbacks.

If the Panthers were to add Jacobs to that group, it could look even more underrated.

This Panthers team is looking to surprise a whole lot of people in the first year with Dave Canales after coming off of their worst season in over two decades.

It could not hurt to add another veteran like Jacobs if that is what the team is looking for.
