The Carolina Panthers are stuck at the bottom of the NFL with a 1-9 record after holding the top pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

Rookie quarterback Bryce Young, whom they took with that No. 1 pick, is struggling somewhat, and C.J. Stroud, the No. 2 pick, has clearly surpassed him in terms of performance and team results.

Derek Wright, a wide receiver they signed to their practice squad just prior to the start of the season, has reportedly sustained a knee injury and will be placed on the injured reserve, per Mike Kaye.

Wright, a 6-foot-1 25-year-old, is originally from Utah, and he played his college ball at Utah State University from 2019 to 2021.

During the 2021 season, he registered 48 catches for 789 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, which earned him honorable mention All-Mountain West honors.

He went undrafted shortly afterward, and he has been with the Panthers’ practice squad ever since.

The team acquired wideouts Adam Thielen and DJ Chark, as well as running back Miles Sanders, this past offseason, and the thinking was that the three players would give Young decent support.

While Thielen has had a strong season — he has 726 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games — Chark hasn’t performed well, and neither has Sanders.

Sanders was a Pro Bowler last season for the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles with 1,269 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, but so far this year, he’s at just 274 yards and one touchdown while averaging 3.3 yards per rushing attempt.

Carolina starts a three-game road trip this weekend against the Tennessee Titans.
