Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic should be very proud right now.

Even though they blew a huge lead to close out the Cleveland Cavaliers, they made it to Game 7 in the first round of the playoffs after being one of the worst teams in the league just last season.

More than that, it’s not like they made any big or flashy signings in the offseason; they just took the very same core from last year, kept working and developing, and proved that they were one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

That’s why, following the loss, Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell reached out to the former No. 1 pick to show him his respect and talk about how proud he was of him (Via NBA).

“We had a moment when the clock was running down and he had the ball. He told me he has a lot of respect for me,” Banchero said.

Banchero acknowledged that the two go back to when he first entered the league, as he was the first NBA player he went at during an offseason pickup game, so the moment they had in the final seconds of the game was special.

The former Duke star had a great performance in Game 7, dominating and getting to the line with ease right from the jump.

Fortunately for him and the Magic, they’re just going to keep getting better, and this definitely won’t be the last we see of Banchero in the postseason.
