It’s been a couple of weeks since the Indiana Pacers’ season came to an end.
However, that doesn’t mean they stopped working.
If anything, the front office made it a point of emphasis to make sure that their most important free agent wasn’t going anywhere.
Now, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that they’ll sign Pascal Siakam to a four-year, $189.5 million maximum contract.
Per Woj, the Cameroonian big man will sign his new deal once the league’s free-agency moratorium ends on July 6.

For the first time, the NBA has allowed teams to negotiate with their own free agents as soon as the NBA Finals end, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see that both parties agreed to this deal so quickly.
Siakam was a seamless fit on Rick Carlisle’s team.
He led the team in scoring (21.3) and rebounds (7.8) since arriving there via the Toronto Raptors and put the team on his shoulders throughout the course of the playoffs.
While not a primary scorer and definitely not the franchise cornerstone in Indiana, Siakam’s impact will be notable for years to come, and he’ll be key to Tyrese Haliburton’s development.
The Pacers overachieved but also proved that they weren’t that far behind in terms of contention by making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Now, with a full season of Siakam and Bennedict Mathurin getting back to full strength, the Pacers might be able to build on this season’s success and continue to be a force in the Eastern Conference.
