The cornerback position in the NFL has gotten interesting over the last few years, with arguably the best of the best at the position being some incredibly young players who have just started their careers in the league.
Ahead of last season, Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos was arguably in the running for the best corner in the NFL, as he has been remarkable since joining the storied franchise in the Mile High City.
There’s been a bit of a youth movement in the league at the position, with Surtain now getting some competition for the distinction as the best in the league from New York Jets star Sauce Gardner, who put on a show during his rookie campaign in the Big Apple.
With many of the league’s elite corners, like Jalen Ramsey and Stephon Gilmore, starting to head toward the downside of their professional careers, these young corners are seizing their opportunity to be considered the cream of the crop at the position.
In a recent interview with James Palmer of NFL Network, Surtain was asked who is the better corner between him and Gardner.

Although Surtain didn’t definitively say that he’s currently the best corner in the NFL ahead of Gardner, he alluded to the fact that both players feel that way about themselves, and understandably so.
Coming into the 2023 NFL season, both players will be under a lot of pressure to perform at a high level once again as the Broncos try to dig themselves out of the hole they are in, with Sean Payton leading the way, and the Jets trying to live up to Super Bowl title-contending expectations following the arrival of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
