Klay Thompson rocked the NBA world recently when he announced he was leaving the Golden State Warriors and signing a new deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

This is obviously a massive change and marks a new chapter in Thompson’s historic career.

Patrick Beverley knows a thing or two about moving to a new team and he defended Thompson’s choice on the latest episode of “The OGs Show.”

Beverley said that Thompson took less money in a deal with the Mavericks because “he just wants freedom.”

But will Thompson really get the sort of freedom that he is seeking?

For years, Thompson was one-half of the world-famous Splash Brothers and a crucial part of the Warriors’ offense.

He is now leaving that team for one that already has an established backcourt consisting of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Will Thompson’s style of play work well alongside them and will he easily fit into the schemes that head coach Jason Kidd has made?

There is a chance that Thompson doesn’t fit with the Mavericks and that could lead to an awkward season that isn’t much better than the last.

At the same time, he now has a level of freedom that he didn’t have with Golden State.

Thompson can essentially start over, re-establish himself, and improve his game.

This is certainly a big opportunity for Thompson and the change of scenery could be exactly what he needs.

Things could go either way and the transition to Dallas might not be as seamless as some fans hope.

But Thompson will absolutely have the freedom to get back on track and remind people who he is.
