With the NBA regular season officially over, the attention turns to the upcoming NBA playoffs and the regular-season awards that will be handed out to the best of the best in the league.
Obviously, one regular-season award that gets more attention than most is the NBA MVP, with there always being a heated debate about which star player in the league deserves to be dubbed the most valuable.
This year, Denver Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic seems likely to win his third NBA MVP award after another stellar season in which he has led the team to the second seed in the Western Conference.
Although it may be inevitable that Jokic wins another MVP to add to his trophy case, Patrick Beverley of the Milwaukee Bucks thinks that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder should be given the award this year, as he said on his podcast via NBACentral.

Beverley argues that Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30 points per game and took a team that was 10th in the West last season to the top spot in the conference this season.
It’s not a bad argument by Beverley, but Jokic will likely come out on top because of his remarkable consistency and ability to make his teammates better on a nightly basis.
However, Gilgeous-Alexander will likely be in the MVP conversation for many years to come if he can continue to play at a high level while keeping the Thunder competitive as legitimate NBA title contenders.
