You can be the man in high school or college, but NBA players won’t allow rookies to just take over.

Veterans will bring in some extra physicality when they see young players.

They’ll test them and try to determine whether they have thick skin or not; that’s just a part of the process and something that all players, even the great ones have to go through.

No player has been safe from getting a ‘welcome to the league’ kind of moment, and especially not Lonzo Ball.

Recently, Patrick Beverley claimed that he gave Lonzo that moment.

Talking to Gilbert Arenas, he revealed that he didn’t like Lonzo’s father, LaVar, so he made sure to make an example out of his son and be overly physical with him because he didn’t want to hear LaVar talking about him on ESPN (via Pat Bev Pod).

Notably, it’s usually the rookie who gets to say who gave him his ‘welcome to the NBA’ moment, and perhaps Lonzo has a different idea of that, but that’s just who Patrick Beverley is.

LaVar didn’t do his children many favors when they first entered the league, up to the point where he was literally banned from some talk shows after several questionable remarks and antics.

Fortunately, both Lonzo and LaMelo were able to shake off that influence, made decisions for themselves, and earned a reputation in the league.
