The Oklahoma City Thunder are definitely ahead of schedule.
Even though most people would agree that they have a bright future, not many analysts or fans expected Mark Daigneault’s team to be this good this fast.
Nonetheless, as great as they are, Patrick Beverley believes they’re not ready to take a leap yet.
Talking on his podcast, he stated that they’re just too young to get past the Denver Nuggets, adding that beating the Nuggets is quite tough (via ClutchPoints).
“Too young. It’s just tough to beat [the Nuggets], man, that’s all. It’s no discredit to any team,” Beverley said.

He might have a valid point, and there should be no shame in losing in the playoffs to the reigning NBA champions.
The Nuggets are tailor-made for a seven-game series, not to mention the fact that they’re battle-tested already, which the Thunder are not.
Even so, this Thunder team has already exceeded all expectations and overperformed, so anything they can achieve in the playoffs is a bonus at this point.
Also, it’s not like the Thunder haven’t rightfully been one of the best teams in the league all season long, going back and forth in their pursuit of the No. 1 seed.
Truth be told, the Thunder front office should approach the offseason as an opportunity to assess what they’re missing to take a leap forward.
They already have a flurry of young talent and a bonafide two-way superstar — which could be two if Chet Holmgren also develops the way they hope.
So, even if they fail to get the job done this season, this team should only get much better, as they still have a plethora of draft picks and money to build their roster.
