For the majority of the 2023 NFL regular season, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs didn’t resemble a team that could win it all, especially in a back-to-back scenario that Andy Reid and company faced.
Despite looking like a team that might quickly flame out in the NFL playoffs, Patrick Mahomes and his squad turned it on once the postseason began in the same way they’ve been able to do in each championship run thus far.
The Chiefs looked like an entirely different team in the playoffs as they made easy work of the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens in consecutive rounds, setting up a showdown with arguably the best team in the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Although the San Francisco 49ers gave the Chiefs all they could handle in the big game, Kansas City was able to come out on top in overtime against Brock Purdy’s squad, officially winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the Chiefs have a chance to make NFL history by becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles, which is a lofty task, to say the least, even for Kansas City.
Former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith recently interviewed his old teammate Mahomes via SiriusXM NFL Radio and asked him what the team’s mindset is with history potentially on the horizon.
“Guys want to be great, and I think that’s the best thing about it,” Mahomes said.

With the Chiefs embarking on a mission to make history, Mahomes seems to be attacking what could be a pressure-filled season with the right mindset, as there’s really no way to prepare differently for something unprecedented.
Only time will tell if the Chiefs can pull off what no team ever has, as it will be interesting to see how things pan out in Kansas City.
