This week, the NFL announced that teams can be scheduled for two Thursday Night Football games per season instead of one, which had been the previous limit.
It is a controversial rule, as it will mean that such teams will have two short weeks of rest and preparation, and with all the concerns over brain trauma and player safety, it could become a problem.
Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs made his displeasure over this rule change clear on his official Twitter account.

Mahomes led his Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons, but he did so on a gimpy ankle that he injured in the Divisional round versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Had he suffered that injury on a Sunday during the regular season the week before a Thursday night game, perhaps he would’ve had to sit out the Thursday game.
A related topic that was discussed at the league’s annual meeting was “flex” scheduling regarding such Thursday games and making them more accessible to fans.
Last season, Thursday Night Football was broadcast exclusively by Amazon Prime, rather than on FOX and NFL Network, which had carried games in previous seasons.
In addition, the NFL is considering allowing teams to carry a third quarterback on their roster in order to be able to respond quickly to injuries suffered by their first and second-string signal-callers.
A number of teams in 2022 were forced to start three or even four QBs at various points of the season because of injuries.
