In four years, the Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, and it will feature a new sport: flag football.
The NFL’s Pro Bowl has already moved to a flag football format, albeit to mixed reviews, and adding flag football to the Olympic schedule could be seen as an attempt to grow America’s most popular sport overseas.
One would think Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes would be at the top of the list of players the United States would want representing it in flag football in 2028.
But he said that he’s unsure if his skill set and style of play would translate well to flag football, per Nick Kicks.
“There’s the want to, I just don’t know if my skill set is what is required for flag football.”

Mahomes said that there’s “a lot of scrambling at the QB position” in that variety of the sport, and that it may not be a good fit for him, since he’s a traditional pocket passer more than someone who makes plays on the move.
He also reminded everyone that he would be in his 30s in 2028 and implied that the extra wear and tear of competing in the Olympics may not be worth it.
Mahomes is widely considered the best quarterback and overall player in the NFL, and he has the hardware, including two regular season MVPs and three Super Bowl MVPs, to back that argument.
He could have up to another decade of high-level play left, and while he may not give himself an opportunity to win an Olympic gold medal, he could have the opportunity to win a few more Vince Lombardi Trophies and overtake Joe Montana and even Tom Brady on the list of the greatest QBs ever.
