Jerod Mayo will be entering his first year as head coach of the New England Patriots during the 2024 NFL season, and so far he’s done a good job, though there are still some questions about the roster.
The biggest one looming over the team involves the contract situation of star pass rusher Matthew Judon.
The veteran is in line for a rich extension after a strong 2023 season, but so far negotiations haven’t been very productive and a deal reportedly isn’t close to fruition.
Judon has been compliant with training camp practices, though, and he was present this week when the players put on pads.
However, he and Mayo did have an animated exchange that resulted in the veteran being sent off the field.
Asked about the Judon situation and his contract, Mayo dismissed any sort of negativity between the two.
“We’re moving past the Judon thing. We’re both in a good place,” Mayo said, via NBC Sports Boston.

In the video, Mayo acknowledges that Judon has been practicing in pads and that the two have moved past any differences that may have existed previously.
This is a good sign for the upcoming season, as Judon will be asked to lead a defense that has potential though is still far from where it needs to be to compete in the AFC East.
For now, it will be interesting to see if the Patriots end up extending Judon before the start of the regular season, as he does deserve a raise for what he’s done on the field.
