With only a few weeks left until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25, the general consensus around the league right now is that three quarterbacks will be taken with the first three picks on draft day, with some debate about which quarterbacks will be taken with those three picks.
The Chicago Bears will almost certainly take USC superstar Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, but then the intrigue begins at No. 2 when the Washington Commanders are on the clock, with Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy in contention to go to the nation’s capital.
Then, at No. 3, the New England Patriots will need to make their decision with the team needing a young quarterback, which could end up being McCarthy if he’s not taken by the Bears or Commanders.
Apparently, if McCarthy is available once the Patriots are on the clock at No. 3 overall, New England could bring in the former University of Michigan star if it is up to Eliot Wolf to make the decision, according to analyst Tony Pauline via NBC Sports Boston.
“Eliot Wolf is pushing for J.J. McCarthy, and that seems like it is going to be the pick,” Pauline said.

Over the past month or so, McCarthy has gotten more buzz than any other quarterback in the upcoming draft other than Williams, who is widely considered to be the best player in this draft class.
Along with Jim Harbaugh singing his praises, McCarthy has been getting nothing but positive reviews from those evaluating him, which doesn’t make it all that surprising that he would be in contention for one of the top picks in the draft.
