There was a point when New England Patriots fans were calling for Bailey Zappe to be the starter.

That speaks volumes about how much Mac Jones was struggling at the time.

Fast forward to today, and Zappe isn’t a part of the roster anymore.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the young quarterback will be waived ahead of the 53-man roster cuts.

With him out of the equation, the Patriots’ QB room has finally taken shape.

Jacoby Brissett is still expected to start, with rookies Drake Maye and Joe Milton III as his backups.

Zappe could still be brought back to the practice squad, provided he clears waivers.

The 25-year-old completed 15 of 25 passes for 137 yards during the preseason.

He was a bit of an afterthought in practice, taking snaps after the other quarterbacks or none at all.

This isn’t new to Zappe, either.

The Patriots waived him at this very same time last season before signing him again to the practice squad upon clearing waivers.

He was later signed to the active roster ahead of their Week 1 clash, and he got some playing time with Jones’ struggles and injuries.

This time, however, his chances of getting back on the field are quite slim, to say the least, as they have big plans for Maye and plenty of depth at the position.
