The New England Patriots don’t have a WR1, but it’s not like they didn’t try.
GM Eliot Wolf was reportedly very aggressive in his pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk.
The San Francisco 49ers, however, always had hopes of getting things sorted out with him and keeping him for the long run.
More than that, it seems like the All-Pro wide receiver was also quite demanding and only had two preferred destinations to be traded to.
Needless to say, the struggling Patriots didn’t make the cut.
Recently, Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer revealed that the Patriots offered WR Kendrick Bourne, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick to get the star wideout (via NBC Sports Boston).

He also reported that the Patriots offered Aiyuk $90 million over three years or $32.4 million per year for four years.
He adds that, if it had come down to money, the Patriots were in a position to beat every single other suitor for his services.
Aiyuk and the Niners got into a very public contract dispute.
However, at the end of the day, the wide receiver had little to no leverage in this situation.
Still, getting $30 million a year with $76 million fully guaranteed is a huge win for the talented wide receiver.
As for the Patriots, it seems like they’ll have to focus their efforts on the 2025 NFL Draft and free agency to get their star pass-catcher.
