The New England Patriots took the field for the first time this preseason last night when they faced off against the Carolina Panthers at home.
The Pats ended up securing a 17-3 win but did it in somewhat of an unconventional way.
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who was drafted earlier this offseason to be the eventual starting quarterback, played just one drive completing two passes for a total of 19 yards.
Week 1 possible starter Jacoby Brissett also played just one series and completed no passes.
Patriots insider Tom E. Curran believes it was a mistake for head coach Jerod Mayo to not play Maye more.
“Huge missed opportunity…This is the kind of thing that you want a get a massive amount of tape on,” Curran recently said on NBC Sports Boston.

It was very shocking to see Maye only play one drive in his NFL debut.
The former North Carolina Tar Heel is in the process of trying to get acclimated to the NFL game, so wouldn’t it be smart to play him more than just one drive?
If Mayo and Co. are worried about keeping him healthy because he may be their starter, then that makes a little more sense.
But Brissett also played just one drive.
Whoever the starter is, wouldn’t it be wise to give them a lot more reps?
Again, Maye needs all the help and game experience that he can get to prepare himself for life as a possible starter, and Brissett, who has mostly been a backup throughout his career, needs to continue to get more comfortable in this offense.
