After parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons, following the end of a disappointing 2023 campaign, the New England Patriots made it clear that a rebuilding process had officially begun.

Along with firing Belichick, the team traded quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, hired first-timer and former player Jerod Mayo as their new head coach, and drafted rookie quarterback Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina to potentially be the new face of the storied franchise.

With all that going on, no one is expecting much from the Patriots in 2024, as it could be another rough year for New England, with Mayo and company trying to do everything within their power to stir this once-proud franchise back in the right direction.

Along with all the questions surrounding Mayo and Maye, the team seems to have a big problem on the offensive line, which is very concerning if the team intends to start their rookie quarterback in Week 1.

According to Tom Curran of NBCS Boston, the offensive line has not held up well during the NFL preseason, which could be a telling sign of what’s to come offensively for the Patriots via NBC Sports Boston.

“That’s a disaster on the offense line, and it’s holding the team hostage,” Curran said.

“Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen would have been throwing these guys into the first row.”

The main concern here is Maye’s health, who the team hopes will be their starter for the foreseeable future, as they don’t want to jeopardize his long-term health if he can’t get any protection up front.

Only time will tell what the Patriots do at quarterback, especially with veteran Jacoby Brissett suffering an injury in the preseason finale, because starting Maye might not be the smart move heading into Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
