The New England Patriots have always loved playing mind games, and this year wasn’t the exception to the rule.

Bill Belichick and company made another one of their bold moves ahead of the season.

According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the team just released Matt Corral and signed Bailey Zappe from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, once again making him Mac Jones’ backup.

The Patriots had originally waived both Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham, leaving Jones as the only quarterback on the active roster.

They brought them back to the practice squad and claimed Matt Corral off waivers after he was released by the Carolina Panthers.

All this roller coaster ride took place in just a handful of days, and they’re now back to the original starting point.

Some speculated that this was Bill Belichick’s way of telling Mac Jones that he was the undisputed No.1  guy and his job wasn’t in jeopardy.

Others claimed that it was all due to the fact that the Pats wanted to bring in someone who could bode actual competition for the spot, which is why they signed Corral.

But it seems like he’s not where they wanted or hoped him to be, and his future in the league now seems uncertain.

As for the Patriots, maybe it’s time we stop trying to guess what’s going on in coach Belichick’s mind, as he’s just going to keep making these moves and make us all look foolish.
