Last year, the NFL made an interesting move by changing the way jersey numbers are used in the league, as players didn’t have to wear certain numbers at certain positions.

Along with making that change, the league allowed players to wear No. 0, which became popular among players and has carried over to the 2024 campaign, with some players already making the change to the unique number.

For the New England Patriots, it appears second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez will wear No. 0 after wearing No. 6 during his rookie campaign, which was unfortunately cut short due to a season-ending injury.

According to ProFootballTalk, Gonzalez will be the first player in Patriots history to wear No. 0.

Gonzalez wore No. 0 while being a star player at the University of Oregon, where he drew the attention of the Patriots, who decided to take him with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

During his first season with the Patriots, Gonzalez started and played in only four games for New England before going down with a dislocated shoulder.

In those four games, Gonzalez proved to the Patriots that they had made the right decision in the draft, as he made an impact with one interception, three passes defensed, 1.0 sack, and 13 solo tackles.

As long as health issues don’t become a persistent problem for Gonzalez, he could play a major role in New England for the foreseeable future as the storied franchise begins a new era with Jerod Mayo taking over for legendary head coach Bill Belichick.
