Earlier in the week, the New England Patriots confirmed that Mac Jones would stay under center for their game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.

Now, it seems like they could take a different approach, as preseason sensation Malik Cunningham could also be in the mix.

Cunningham had some highlights during the preseason and played his way onto the practice squad to begin the 2023 season.

He’s still there and not on the 53-man roster, but HC Bill Belichick recently praised him and hinted at potentially giving him an opportunity to showcase his skills (via Arye Pulli).

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick said this morning that QB/WR Malik Cunningham is “trending towards” getting an opportunity in a game.

Jones has been pulled out of the game in consecutive weeks now, with Bailey Zappe taking the reins of the offense.

Nonetheless, the Patriots have made it loud and clear that they don’t consider Zappe to be starter material.

Also, there’s a chance that Cunningham could line up at wide receiver and not at quarterback, as the Pats’ skill players have struggled to create separation this season.

The Patriots are in desperate need of a turnaround, and while a single player may not be able to do it, they definitely need to try different things to avoid a disaster of a season.
