The New England Patriots are currently in a total rebuild mode, with the team cleaning house over the course of the NFL offseason, from firing head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons with the franchise to trading quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Jerod Mayo now in place as the new head coach, and rookie Drake Maye trying to win the starting job under center, a new era is underway in New England, with no telling how long it might take for them to bounce back and become a force to be reckoned with in the AFC once again.

Currently, Maye is battling it out with veteran Jacoby Brissett to be the starting QB for the Patriots heading into Week 1, when the team goes on the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 8.

With Brissett already knowing what it’s like in New England, and having plenty of experience as a starter and a backup in the league, there’s a decent chance he wins the job, unless Maye is unmistakenly the better player over the course of the next few weeks.

Patriots wide receiver Jalen Reagor recently dropped a major hint about Maye and his potential and believes the rookie will eventually get the opportunity to show just how talented he is, via NBC Sports Boston.

“Whenever he does get more opportunities, he’s gonna show you guys how great he really is,” Reagor said.

At this point, it is anyone’s guess who will be the Patriots’ starting quarterback come Week 1, as things can change from practice to practice until the time comes to make a decision.

It’ll be interesting to see if Maye does get the chance to start right away or has to begin his NFL career on the bench.
