Patriots Worked Out Notable Defensive End Tuesday

The New England Patriots lost their best pass rusher.

Losing Matthew Judon was a big blow to their defense, and Jerod Mayo’s team might need to make several moves to get back on track.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, they’ve brought in DL Chris McCarroll.

On top of Judon’s trade, the Patriots have dealt with some injuries among their EDGE defenders, so this makes perfect sense.

As reported by Wilson, McCarroll was a 2023 All-American at Grand Valley State, and he previously worked out for the Indianapolis Colts during their rookie minicamp.

The Patriots have struggled with injuries lately.

DL Oshane Ximines and OLB Joshua Uche have missed time over the past couple of days, and there are reports about DT Christian Barmore potentially missing an extended period of time as he recovers from blood clots.

That leaves the Patriots with Anfernee Jennings and Deatrich Wise Jr. as the likeliest candidates to sub in for Matthew Judon, whereas Jeremiah Pharms and Trysten Hill have put themselves in a position to make the final 53-man roster after an impressive training camp.

Even so, this is a physical game, and injuries are a big part of it, which is why the Patriots need to have a plan B in place.

So, if Uche or Ximines were to miss time, perhaps McCarroll could find his way to the roster if he’s kept on the practice squad.

Whatever the case, this could turn out to be a very, very long season in Foxboro.
