The New England Patriots entered the offseason with a lot to work on, and a lot of positions to figure out.
Their most pressing hole was at quarterback, which they filled with rookie Drake Maye.
After quarterback, the Patriots had to focus on growing their wide receiver room, as many saw this as the worst group in the league.
They had limited options on their depth chart, so adding depth was imperative.
While adding more veterans might have been in their best interest, the Patriots instead turned to the draft, hoping to find some diamonds in the rough.
They selected Ja’Lynn Polk in the second round, and Javon Baker in the fourth round.
Polk has looked fine in training camp, but the same cannot be said for Baker, as reporter Chad Graff recently highlighted.
When discussing Baker, Graff said, “His spot on the roster is virtually guaranteed, but his position on the depth chart is dropping. He’ll likely open the season as the team’s No. 4 or 5 wide receiver, eventually dropping further once Bourne returns.”

Unfortunately for the Patriots, Baker hasn’t exactly been a great return on their fourth-round investment.
He hasn’t inspired much confidence in camp, and despite the Patriots having a poor WR room, he finds himself near the bottom of the barrel.
The Patriots have been searching for relevance since Tom Brady left them for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They haven’t found it to this point, and unless something major changes soon, the 2024 season could also be a bust.
