A few years ago, the Los Angeles Clippers pulled out all the stops with new team owner Steve Ballmer determined to right the ship in the post-Donald Sterling era in the City of Angels.
The Clippers were determined to become a perennial title contender and, as a result, landed the biggest name in NBA free agency at the time, signing Los Angeles native Kawhi Leonard and then immediately making a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to bring in another hometown player in Paul George.
The combination of these superstars would be considered a game-changer for the Clippers franchise and would give the struggling team its first real shot at winning that elusive NBA title.
Unfortunately, injuries took a toll on both players after landing with the Clippers, resulting in failed expectations and George leaving the team in free agency this summer, as he chose to join forces with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Reflecting on his time with the Clippers, George admitted that he felt like he was playing for the “B Team” in Los Angeles, as he said on Podcast P with Paul George via NBA Central.

George will look to finally get out of the shadow of the Los Angeles Lakers as he embarks on a new stage of his career with the 76ers, who should be a legitimate title contender next season and for the foreseeable future with the addition of the veteran forward.
As for the Clippers, the team is sticking with Leonard and James Harden as the franchise’s faces moving forward, which might not go as well as they hope as they start next season in their new arena, the Intuit Dome, in El Segundo.
