The Los Angeles Clippers didn’t need to look too far to find their point guard for the next couple of years.
Russell Westbrook’s audition for the job was more than satisfactory, and they didn’t hesitate to bring him back.
Moreover, Westbrook agreed to take a team-friendly deal to stay in his hometown and with one of his best teammates in Paul George.
He took a veteran’s minimum deal for the first time in his career, which is why George thanked him and claimed the team had gotten a true steal by signing him at that value.
Truth be told, Westbrook’s ability to put up big numbers has never been in question, nor his impact on the court.
Perhaps, the two issues surrounding him lately were his massive contract and the fact that he played for one of the most demanding fan bases and media markets on Earth in the Los Angeles Lakers.
There’s a big difference between getting Westbrook at $40+ million and at $4 million; every single team in the league would gladly accept him with the latter contract.
Westbrook is a future Hall of Famer and a guy who proved that he can still produce at an elite level, and that’s the kind of player a team like the Clippers need right now, especially with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard constantly missing time with injuries.
Hopefully, fans will finally start giving respect where it’s due and realize that Westbrook is one of the best and most impactful players of his generation.
