As expected by most NBA insiders, Paul George is now officially a free agent.

The talented small forward declined his player option for the upcoming campaign, thus leaving behind his ties to the Los Angeles Clippers organization.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean he is going to leave the team.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, he’s going to take free-agent meetings with them, although he will also meet with the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.

Per the report, the meetings will take place late Sunday night and Monday on the West Coast.

Paul George was reportedly looking for something in the ballpark of the contract extension that the Clippers gave Kawhi Leonard, but they could never come to terms with anything.

It seems highly unlikely that the situation will change as a free agent, although staying put in Los Angeles makes the most sense for him, as his whole camp and family are based in California.

In terms of championship contention, joining the Sixers might be the right move for the former Indiana Pacers star, who would then be returning to the easier Eastern Conference to play with Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

As for the Magic, it might be a bit of a long shot, although they might be in a position to make him the better offer, money-wise.

Whatever the case, George is still one of the best two-way players in the league, and he should be compensated as such, even at this point in his career.
