The All-Star Game rosters for the American League and National League are finally set.

On Sunday, just three days after the starters were revealed, the reserves were announced.

The St. Louis Cardinals only have one player representing their squad in the All-Star Game this year.

Nolan Arenado was selected as the starting third baseman for the National League squad.

Reigning MVP Paul Goldschmidt is having a solid season, but was not added to the NL roster.

Instead, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was added.

On Twitter, a Cardinals fan expressed their discontent with the situation and made an argument for why Goldschmidt should be on the roster.

Paul Goldschmidt is ahead of Pete Alonso in the following categories:

AVG, OBP, OPS, Hits, Runs, Doubles, Walks, WAR

The fan pointed out that Goldschmidt is ahead of Alonso in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, hits, runs, doubles, walks, and WAR.

The reigning MVP owns an average of .286 and has hit 15 home runs while driving in 46 runs.

His OPS currently sits at .867.

On the other hand, Alonso is hitting just .221 with an .836 OPS.

Alonso is ahead of Goldschmidt in home runs and RBI only.

The reigning MVP is reaching base at a .375 clip, has hit 20 doubles, walked 44 times, scored 51 runs, and has also posted a WAR of 2.7.

Alonso has scored 46 runs, has an on-base percentage of .316, seven doubles, and 31 walks while posting a 1.8 WAR, so the argument for Goldschmidt over Alonso is quite a compelling one given the stats.

It’s always possible that Goldschmidt could be added as an injury replacement, but Cardinals fans are understandably frustrated over the fact that Alonso was chosen over the reigning MVP.
