Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics had their first game of the postseason on Sunday and it was a very good one, with them beating the Miami Heat, 114-94.
During the game, Tatum scored a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The playoffs might be Tatum’s time to shine in new and brighter ways.
Paul Pierce thinks so.
Speaking with Kevin Garnett, Pierce said, “I truly believe [Tatum] will be the face of the league. Best American-born player today.”

Jayson Tatum is already a superstar but is he ready to take over as the face of the NBA? Shyt, P thinks so. Y’all agree or nah? https://t.co/0I5hKmMWsD pic.twitter.com/2bDT8KMNU2

For years now, Tatum has been one of the most talked-about players in the entire NBA.
He has been consistently spoken about as an MVP candidate and one of the best young stars in the Association.
But despite all the praise and celebration, Tatum has missed out on one pivotal thing: a championship win.
The Celtics have come close a few times, but not close enough, and there have been questions about Tatum’s leadership skills.
Why can’t Boston seal the deal and go all the way?
Now there is a lot of agreement that this could be the year Boston wins it all.
Tatum has had a stellar regular season, averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game and he has improved his game in multiple ways.
So if the Celtics are able to win their 18th championship, it’ll definitely be because Tatum has reached a new level.
Sunday’s game was a very promising start for the Celtics and they are still favorites to win this series and the Eastern Conference.
Tatum might not be winning MVP this season but if he continues to play well and his Celtics thrive in the playoffs, he could end up taking home the Finals MVP trophy.
